SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. and MySQL Conference - April 15, 2008 - WaveMaker™, a leading provider of open source Web application development tools, today announced the appointment of Roger Sippl to the Board of Directors. With over 30 years of experience in building and managing enterprise software companies, Sippl will help guide WaveMaker as it continues to expand its Ajax open source Web application development platform. The company also closed four million dollars in funding this month which will help fuel the continued growth of the company's developer community.
"WaveMaker is bringing the database to the Web, and we look forward to Roger's guidance and expertise as we scale this effort throughout the year," said Chris Keene, CEO of WaveMaker. "Roger has a strong legacy of working with emerging application development companies, especially in the SOA and database markets, and his experience will be invaluable to WaveMaker as we build out our developer community and continue innovation in Ajax Web development."
Roger Sippl has a rich history of both starting companies and investing in the winning efforts of other entrepreneurs in the data management enterprise software industry, and currently invests though his own investment entity, Sippl Investments, LLC. Previously Roger was founder and CEO of Informix Software, where under his direction Informix pioneered SQL relational databases, 4GL application development tools and OLTP database technology before being acquired by IBM. Sippl was also co-founder of The Vantive Corporation, founder and CEO of Visigenic Software, Chairman and CEO of Above All Software and currently serves on the boards of Interwoven and Demand Reports. Other notable investments in this area include Illustra, Versata, BroadVision, SupportSoft and Rearden Commerce. He earned a B.S. in computer science from the University of California at Berkeley.
"At Informix, our 4GL tools put unprecedented power in the hands of business developers, and I see this level of power being given to developers again with the adoption of Enterprise 2.0," said Roger Sippl. "WaveMaker is democratizing Web application development - I see them as the PowerBuilder for Web 2.0 development."
Sippl joins other data base pioneers on the WaveMaker Board of Directors, including Mitchell Kertzman, former CEO of Powersoft and Sybase and Partner at Hummer Winblad Venture Partners. Together, Hummer Winblad and Sippl Investments invested 4.5 million dollars in WaveMaker in Q1 2008. This additional round of funding will be allocated for continued development of WaveMaker's growing open source community.
Note, WaveMaker will host a "Birds of a Feather" tutorial and contest for aspiring Ajax developers at the MySQL Conference in Santa Clara. To participate, please join WaveMaker in BallRoom E at the Santa Clara Convention Center on Tuesday, April 15 at 8:30 p.m. PT.
